Lead Pastor Brandon and Joy Berg
Pastor Brandon rode his bike through Orchards park throughout his childhood, and Joy grew up splashing through streams in Ridgefield. They pastored in Vancouver for nearly nine years before answering God’s call to move to Northern California in 2005 to pastor students in Lodi.
In January 2009, the Lord began to gently and persistently call PB and Joy’s hearts to leave the stability of their current lives in California and return to Vancouver in order to plant a church that would honor the heartbeat of Jesus for their home city. It would require risk. In their willingness to sacrifice, Rhapsody Church was born.
PB holds a Master’s degree in Spiritual Formation from George Fox University and has been married to his high-school sweetheart, Joy, for 23 years. He loves golf, fishing, camping, a good BBQ (he is currently perfecting his own recipe), and, little known fact, he is fairly lethal at foosball.
Joy has a passion for prayer, leading life groups and creative arts. In her spare time, when she is not sitting with Jesus, she enjoys drawing, painting and taking her two furry friends, Mollie and Maggie for walks. She is a personal trainer in Portland and Vancouver for Reinvent Strength Training Center. She is currently pursuing more education through Discover Ministry School.
Together, they have three children: their daughter, Kayla, their son-in-law, Daniel, and their son, Drew.
Worship Pastor Caleb and Jess Hardy
Pastor Caleb and Jess are beyond blessed to be able to partner together to lead worship at Rhapsody Church. Individual and corporate worship is a passion, a pursuit and a journey for both of them. Playing music with their team is a privilege and joy.
At Rhapsody, Pastor Caleb also has a hand in helping with administration, generating new ideas and improvements, and leading transitions in many areas. Outside of Rhapsody he also finds joy and fulfillment in hands-on projects, nature, building, learning history and philosophy and the University of Oregon Ducks. He has his Masters in Education, has been a pastor in Lodi, California and at Rhapsody for a total of 12 years, a principal of a K-8th grade school, and a transportation broker.
In addition to helping with worship and a wide variety of other things at Rhapsody, Jess enjoys writing, reading her son Daniel’s books, homeschooling their two oldest children, various legal projects- including volunteering at the YWCA, and chasing waterfalls. Jess and Caleb have been adventuring together for 15 years. They both enjoy shooting hoops with their son, Daniel, dancing with their daughter Haven, and singing “Let It Go” with Grace.
Generations Pastor Matt Chapirson
Pastor Matt, his wife Sara, and their two kids began attending Rhapsody in September of 2012. Currently, Matt is the Generations Pastor (overseeing Kids Unwrapped, Ground Zero, and the Young Adults Group), shares the preaching load with Pastor Brandon on Sundays, lays down sweet drum beats as a worship leader, and oversees and facilitates the Vancouver campus of Discover Ministry School. Before Rhapsody, Pastor Matt and Sara were pastors for 10 years in various capacities. He and his wife have a passion for training leaders and inspiring a passion for Jesus in future generations. With all of these hats, it’s difficult to believe that Pastor Matt’s main source of income is derived from his partnership in Form 7 Productions. Pastor Matt also enjoys writing with his daughter, Abi (has authored and is working on fiction and non-fiction books), WWE with his son, Eli, and seeing the latest movies with Sara.
Contact Pastor Matt
First Impressions Director Sara Chapirson
Sara has a heart for hospitality, excellence and atmosphere. She handles all things for the Fusion Team including aspects of “meet, greet, direct, and seat,” and coffee and refreshments, and, as if that isn’t enough, she leads the many volunteers of the Fusion Team. If you feel welcomed at Rhapsody it’s because of Sara’s heart and hard work! Sara is married to Pastor Matt and they have two children: Abi and Eli. In her spare time, (ha ha, she is a mom), she can be found pursuing the plant section at Fred Meyers, or knitting a hat for Ed and Sandy Byerly to take to the outreach at the park on Saturdays. She is also pursuing her education through the Discover Ministry School.
Kids Unwrapped Director Myhriah Young
Myhriah is our Kids Unwrapped director of 3 years. She is creative and passionate when it comes to working with children. Her desire is to teach kids to reach out to others for the kingdom. Kids Unwrapped is a family affair; you will often see Myhriah, her husband Alex and two children working to set up and get KU running. Her crew is like family too; working hard to love on Rhapsody’s kids, but also getting together to do awesome activities. The newly established KU Leadership Team is a close-knit group of volunteers, who want the ministry to thrive. They run hard and throw-in to move the vision of KU toward a bright future.
Professionally, Myhriah is an Office Assistant for Successful Learning Educational Services, and by night she is the owner of The Luvin’ Life, where she hosts a podcast and runs online courses, workshops and more. She is also an avid crafter and has more ideas than she has time for. In her “spare time”, she is pursuing an education with INSTE.
Service Management Director Alex Young
Alex oversees our Service Management Team and is gifted in many areas – technology, process, troubleshooting and communication. Alex, a calm and assertive personality, is always one step ahead, attacks problems with a huge dose of common sense and helps keep the Sunday morning experience running smoothly, either personally or through the team of Service Managers he leads. He also assists his wife, Myhriah, with the many technical aspects of running Kids Unwrapped. When he is not at Rhapsody or actively dating his wife, Myhriah, he explores forests throughout the northwest and maintains an epic beard. He and Myhriah have two children: Byanca and Chrystian.
Life Groups Directors Ed and Sandy Byerly
Ed and Sandy Byerly are the Life Group Directors for Rhapsody Church. Their passion is growing spiritually and helping others do that same. They love Rhapsody Church and Vancouver and serve tirelessly: at multiple Rhapsody life groups every week, regularly at the Leverich Park homeless outreach, with Heart Change, and many other ways behind the scenes at Rhapsody. They have been our Life Group Directors since August of 2016. After 45 years of marriage they love spending time together Goodwilling, antiquing, and Starbucking. Their leadership is compassionate and empathetic; they have dealt with helping many people overcome addictions, and set up meals and other resources for people dealing with transitions and loss.
Communications Arts Director Apryl Mar
Apryl geeks out on all things vision and culture related. She brings 14 years of ministry in arts and communication to the team. After a year at Rhapsody, Apryl was called to help forge and lead our Communication Arts Team in October 2017. Professionally, she is a gifted Graphic Arts Director and has a freelance graphic solutions business. She thinks deeply and communicates uniquely about life, love and relationships. In God’s hands one of her greatest challenges became a great gift as she both embraces and wrestles with dyslexia. This challenge made her and overcomer, thinking outside the box, and finding many times this is a gift that doesn’t stop her from pursing expression in many forms. She loves hands on creative arts, meaningful conversations, prayer, walks in the woods, the ocean air, and all that is our beautiful Northwest. Her favorite person is her husband Brian Mar. They have been married for 17 years, and they have two boys: Elijah and Silas. She oversees all visual, digital and written communication for Rhapsody.
Mobile and Tech Director Joe Ryder
Joe is our Swiss Army knife, currently leading the Mobile, Sound and Media Teams at Rhapsody Church. He pours out his passions for problem-solving, making things more efficient, technology, and inclusion into all he does, including assisting the Communications Arts Team. He and his beautiful family – his wife, Morgan, who is passionate about helping lead Kids Unwrapped; and four children: Alayna, Aiden, Brooklyn and Bella – have attended and served Rhapsody Church since 2013. He has given abundantly and excessively to this church community, and most of it, nobody sees. In his free time (“whatever that is…”), he likes to stomp his kids at video games, play bass and guitar, write, dabble in woodworking, cook, and create multimedia art.
